About The Animal Show

The Animal Show first appeared on Shaw TV Vancouver in August of 2010 and continued airing every second week (with very few exceptions) until it's final episode (#166) in March 2017.

The producer/originator of the series was one Mr. Harley Steubing, a long-time fixture of the Rogers Community Channel, Shaw TV Vancouver as well as Shaw's Multicultural Channel. Harley's idea was to produce a simple, family-friendly series featuring the many pets available for adoption at our civic animal shelters. The goal was to bring these wonderful creatures to the attention of the viewing public, in hopes of assisting the shelters in placing animals in much-deserved adoptive homes.

OK, a pretty basic concept, and not exactly ground-breaking or original — there have been more than a few 'adopt-a-pet' style programs over the years. Be that as it may, there's no denying the fact that the format works, and works well — as evidenced by the numerous positive comments and 'thank-you' notes that have found their way to us over the past several seasons... Many from viewers who, after seeing the show, went straight down to their local shelter and adopted a pet!

Sadly, our good friend and colleague Harley passed away in March 2016. Gone, but not forgotten. His hard work and dedication to the project was the sole reason the series got to air in the first place. Perhaps the best way to sum up what the show was about is to quote Harley's own words — from the original 'About The Animal Show' page:

Every Animal Deserves a Home!

Civic animal shelters have been operating in our communities for many years. Their main purpose is to provide lost, found and injured animals with safe, humane living conditions and adequate care — ultimately, the goal is to get these animals adopted by loving homes.

The sad reality is that many of these wonderful animals are never adopted, and some often end up languishing in shelters for years, alone and unwanted. As far as we’re concerned, this is simply not acceptable.

The bottom line is this: there is a serious and on-going need to provide a regular public appeal to assist our local shelters in finding homes for these animals!

It is our sincere belief that every animal does indeed deserve a home — we are committed to doing our part in helping our local shelters and the animals in their care by continuing to appeal to our viewers: Adopt a pet from your local Animal Shelter!
